On Arrival
1
Acclimatise
Leave the netting on, stand the tree outside or in a cool hallway for 30–60 minutes.
2
Fresh Cut (Important)
Saw 1–2cm off the base so the tree can drink properly.
3
Stand & Water
Fix it straight in a water stand, add 2–3L of fresh water immediately.
Tip: Nordmann firs are "low needle drop", but only if the base stays submerged.
Positioning
Cool spot: Avoid radiators, log burners, underfloor heating vents and direct sun.
Clear space: Give the branches room so they don't brush against hot bulbs or walls.
Pets & kids: Consider a lower-traffic corner and secure the stand firmly.
Watering & Daily Care
Day 1: 2–3L right away (many trees drink a lot in the first 24hrs).
Thereafter: Check daily; top up 0.5–1L as needed. Never let the base dry out.
No additives needed: Plain tap water is best (no sugar, aspirin, or cola).
Room humidity: Drier rooms = more top-ups. If possible, lower the thermostat slightly in that room.
Lights & Decorations
Use LED lights (cool running)
Inspect cables; don't overload sockets
Hang heavier ornaments nearer the trunk for balance
Troubleshooting
Needles dropping early?
Usually heat or a dry stand. Move the tree to a cooler spot and restore water above the base.
Droopy/closed branches?
After re-hydrating for 12–24hrs they usually relax.
Safety
Keep open flames well away
Switch lights off overnight and when you're out
Make sure the stand is stable and can't be tipped by pets/kids
FAQs
How long will a real Nordmann last indoors?
With water and a cool spot, 4–6 weeks comfortably.
Do I really need a fresh cut?
Yes — if the base seals, water can't flow. A 1–2cm trim reopens the pores.
How much water does it drink?
Up to 1–2L on day one, then 0.5–1L/day depending on room temp.
Should I add anything to the water?
No — plain water is best. Additives don't improve longevity.
Can I mist the branches?
Not necessary; it can wet lights/ornaments. Better to keep the stand topped up and the room cooler.
