What Size Christmas Tree Do I Need? A Room-by-Room Guide
The most common Christmas tree mistake isn't the variety — it's the size. Too small and it gets lost in the room; too large and it dominates everything. Here's how to get it right, room by room.
Step 1: Measure Your Ceiling Height
Measure from floor to ceiling, then subtract around 30cm for the stand and another 15-30cm if you're adding a star or topper. That's your maximum realistic tree height — it's almost always shorter than people expect.
Step 2: Match the Size to the Room
- 2-3ft — tabletop trees, perfect for flats, desks and smaller spaces. Shop 2-4ft trees
- 4-5ft — a great first tree for smaller flats and lower ceilings. Shop 2-4ft trees
- 6-7ft — our most popular sizes, suited to standard-height living rooms. Shop 5-6ft trees or Shop 7-9ft trees
- 8-9ft — ideal for period homes, bay windows and higher ceilings. Shop 7-9ft trees
- 10-12ft — grand entrance halls and double-height spaces. Shop 10-12ft trees
- 13ft+ — hotel lobbies, offices and commercial spaces. Shop 13ft+ commercial trees or see our Business & Corporate service
Don't Forget Width
A well-grown Nordmann Fir is naturally full, so a 7ft tree can easily need 4-5ft of floor space at its base. Check the width of your space, not just the height, before you order — especially in a bay window or alongside furniture.
Still Not Sure?
If you're between two sizes, we'd generally recommend sizing up rather than down — a tree that's slightly too big reads as intentional and impressive; one that's too small can look like an afterthought. Every tree we deliver is measured and hand-selected before it leaves us, so what you order is what arrives.
